Well, I have been able to make progress on Orca Bay. I have all of the hour glass blocks made. These are the units needed. Plus a few others.
They turned out better than expected. I usually have trouble with this pattern. Only two went in the trash. The rest will work just fine.
Here are 50 of the 72 string blocks needed. The hardest part of this step was committing to a color. I know my primary color is going to be yellows/oranges and I had thought I would use greens with that. But my daughter and mother both said they liked blue. So blue it is. Not to lead either of them to believe this might end up on their bed. Deciding that might end up being the hardest part.
Be sure to visit Design Wall Monday at Patchwork Times to see all of the great projects there today.
And for directions to Orca Bay visit Bonnie Hunter here.
Have a great day.

Good for you -- you are keeping up with Orca Bay. I'm skipping it. And, even if I was doing it I couldn't keep up!
The Orca Bay pattern is very intriguing. I wonder how the next color (Bonnie's red) will be incorporated with the b/w hourglasses and the blue strings.
You got quite a bit done and it all looks great. I like both colour combos - blue or green. When you get finished the decision on who will get it may be easy...it just might be for you!
Great start, I like your blues! Being "sleepless" can have it's benefits ;o)
You've gotten a lot done. It is hard deciding which colors to use, isn't it? I'm having that same trouble. Better decide before I get too far behind.
Your blocks look great. The yellow/orange addition will be fantastic! ~Jeanne
I have a hard time selling, or gifting each one of my quilts. It feels like giving away one of my pets....but it also feels great to give a heirloom gift that is appreciated by our loved ones. :)
Looks great, the problem I have is getting a nice variety of blues, I realised I just don't have a lot of blues!
Your strings are great!
It is amazing that the huge pile of scraps from your last post turned into such nice and tidy blocks. Love the blues.
Julie, your blocks all look marvellous. I love the blues. You did a great job to get so many done!
I can't wait to see the yellows/oranges mixed in. It's going to be awesome.
Well done for keeping up, I enjoyed your blog.
